I was so motivated by these adorable compilations of location-inspired names from Colorado and New York City, that I just had to brainstorm a list for my new home, Charlotte, NC. The Queen City is a wonderful place to have a baby, settle down and raise a family. The thriving economy and growth in Charlotte is bringing lots of young couples to town. Folks quickly fall in love with all this area has to offer.
As a birth and postpartum doula, I've always loved to hear the stories of how parents choose their babies' names. Here's my list of names that nod to the history and culture of all things Charlotte.
For the ladies:
Charlotte - Can't get much closer to the source! Join Prince William and Princess Kate in choosing a lovely name for you little one!
Jessamine - Our neighboring state, South Carolina's official state flower is Yellow Jessamine
Carolina - Because you know when you moved here, the classic James Taylor song was stuck in your head every single day.

Annie - for Annie Lowrie Alexander, the south’s first female physician
Elizabeth - This is a classic Queen's name of course, and also one of the hippest neighborhoods near Uptown Charlotte.
Tammy Faye - Here's a nod to the beloved (albeit controversial) televangelist from Heritage USA in Fort Mill, SC.

Billy - such a classic american boy's name and a nod to the revered and beloved evangelist, native Charlottean Billy Graham

Romare - The gorgeous park in the center of Uptown Charlotte is named for famous artist Romare Beardon
